MICROMERITICS AND SURFACE MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS ANNOUNCE GLOBAL COLLABORATION!
Surface Measurement Systems Limited and Particulate Systems, a division of Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, are pleased to announce a Global Strategic Collaboration starting October 2009.
The collaboration between Micromeritics and Surface Measurement Systems, two acknowledged industry leaders, will draw on the combined knowledge and experience of both companies in the design and development of advanced analytical equipment for the characterization of particulate, porous and complex materials. Working together, both companies will strengthen their ability to deliver customer focussed instrumentation solutions globally.
In the initial phase of this collaboration, Particulate Systems will have the exclusive distribution rights for key Surface Measurement Systems products in selected regions of the US as well as South America, Central America and the Middle East. In addition, Surface Measurement Systems will extend their service and support for customers in the USA via the Particulate System’s extensive US aftercare network. Particulate Systems will also have co-distribution rights to sell Surface Measurement Systems products in China.
Particulate Systems and Surface Measurement Systems will commence organizing joint academic meetings, symposia and other academic training programs to advance the development of particle and sorption technology starting in October 2009.
Preston Hendrix, President of Micromeritics stated that “collaboration between the two organizations enhances our ability to offer advanced analytical tools to guide research, resolve problems in production and QC, and to expand the understanding of material structure in general. Joining forces with SMS provides the customers of both companies’ additional options for solving their analytical needs.”
Dr. Daryl Williams, Managing Director and Founder of Surface Measurement Systems commented that “this new relationship builds on both a business and product synergy between our two companies which will allow us to provide total instrumentation solutions for many new research and development sectors”

Surface Measurement Systems is a world leader in sorption technology instrumentation and solutions. The company continues to develop and engineer innovative experimental cutting edge techniques and instrumentation for physico-chemical characterisation of complex solids. By carefully controlling, measuring and analysing the physicochemical interaction of vapours with solid samples such as powders, fibres and films, SMS can help solve problems in research and development, such as stability studies and drying performance, right through to manufacturing & quality control. Our range of characterisation instruments and scientific/engineering techniques help solve difficult problems in the pharmaceuticals, biomaterials, polymers, catalysts, chemical, cosmetics and food industries, and are used by hundreds of leading laboratories and universities throughout the world.
Particulate Systems, a Micromeritics Company is an industry leader in Particle Science and Particle Technology instrumentation. Micromeritics provides a complete line of scientific instruments and laboratory equipment targeted exclusively for areas of application and research involving particle science and particle technology, including the expanding area of nanoscience. Particle size analyzers employ laser diffraction, x-ray sedimentation, and electrozone sensing. Physical adsorption and mercury porosimetry instruments determine surface area and porosity. Chemical adsorption techniques are used to determine the active area of catalysts, metal dispersion, and surface energy. Temperature-programmed chemisorption (TPD, TPR, TPO) techniques are utilized in the chemisorption product line.
This knowledge is essential in the development of products, the efficient utilization of raw materials, and the understanding of many natural phenomena. Pharmacology, cosmetics, nanotechnology, paints, pigments, food science, ceramics, textiles, geological science, and polymer science are some of the areas of science and technology that rely on Micromeritics' instruments to determine the physical characteristics of powders and solid materials.
