This clip shows Recrystallisation induced by water vapour adsorption in Salbutamol at 80% RH.

This video is in the Macromediaฎ Flash Projector format and will play on Windows computers without the need for additional software.

The VGI can be used to provide data on solvent-adsorbate interactions that are not only vital in their own right but also complement gravimetric data acquired by Dynamic Vapour Sorption (DVS). Studies include:

• Moisture Induced Phase Transitions.
• Vapour Phase Crystal Growth.
• Degradation and Caking of Foodstuffs.
• Microbial Growth.
• Dissolution of Solids.
• Pharmaceutical Hydrate Formation.
• Vapour-Surface Chemistry.

Through its custom designed sample area/humidity generation unit, the VGI successfully sidesteps condensation and control problems often encountered with traditional stand-alone humidity generators. By combining the two components into one thermally managed system the VGI delivers unrivalled performance in terms of humidity stability, control and reproducibility.

Fundamental to the whole range are:

• Computer control, with data replay and video overlay capabilities.
• PID closed loop control with accurate sample area humidity measurement.
• Precise and controllable humidity range 0-95%, with stepped, ramped or
• constant humidity experiments, with an accuracy better than 1.5%RH.
• Temperature ranges to suit most applications can be catered for with a
• typical resolution of 0.01ฐC, and control accuracy better than ฑ0.1ฐC.
• A wide range of optical materials available for different studies including
• BaF2 windows for IR, and Borosilicate for Raman data collection.

The current range includes:

• VGI 2000 M - Optical / Raman/ IR Microscopy.
• VGI FT-IR - Infra-red ATR for thin-films.
• VGI MEMS - humidity control for the testing of electronic components.
• Customised Turn-Key solutions - Individually developed to suit your needs.

In addition to the current range of products already available, SMS is able to customise its patented vapour generation and control technology and deliver one-off Turn-key Solutions optimised for your requirements.  For more information or to discuss your requirements send an email to .
